Casting New Opportunities in Plastic

The Liwa Plastics Project is currently under development and scheduled to start operations by the end of 2019. It is projected to run at maximum capacity of more or less 1.5 million MT, with expected production consisting of 640 KT of polypropylene (PP), 440 KT of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 440 KT of liner low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) produces significant volumes of naphtha and propylene, which serve as feedstock for adjoining aromatics and polypropylene plants. The aromatics plant has the capacity to produce 818,000 tonnes per year of paraxylene, and 198,000 tonnes of benzene annually. The polypropylene plant produces 340,000 tonnes focusing on the export of the polyethylene and polypropylene plastics to all over the world; mainly China, but also India, Turkey and eastern Africa.
