Since 2003, SOHAR has formed deep and enduring bonds with the local community and has helped to transform the port city through a range of social, cultural and economic initiatives. This is the place where you’ll discover the many SOHAR Port and Freezone projects and initiatives that have helped bring about positive change.

Skills development, cultural activities, sports and health, and environmental issues are high on our agenda. We work closely with local schools, Government agencies, and businesses to contribute to sustainable growth, and promote an inclusive and thriving community.

Run for Your Life

London, Boston, Paris and New York, all famous marathon cities. Now SOHAR joins the list as part of the 2014 World Health Day Marathon. The event, sponsored by SOHAR Port and Freezone, and organized by the Ministry of Health with support from the Ministries of Education and Sports Affairs, attracted around 350 participants with many disabled athletes competing for the first time.
As part of a campaign entitled ‘Walk for Health’, the marathon helped raise awareness of the importance of regular exercise in order to combat diabetes, hypertension and strokes. The Ministry of Health undertook a screening process to help identify those at risk and provided the relevant information and treatment to combat the conditions. Andre Toet, SOHAR CEO: “Something as simple as a brisk, daily walk has huge health benefits. We’re delighted to lend our support to such a worthy cause.”
