SOHAR has become the first port in the Middle East to reward ships with good environmental credentials. Worldwide, there are just twenty ports that offer such an incentive. As part of the World Port Climate Initiative (WPCI), key ports from around the world have committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. The reward scheme incentivizes clean ships calling at the port with a rebate on their port fees.
“SOHAR is setting a new standard in the region by rewarding operators for improving the environmental performance of their shipping fleets,” said Andre Toet, Chief Executive of SOHAR Port and Freezone. “This initiative will contribute to a reduction of emissions from ships and will have a positive influence on the quality of life for our local communities.”
