Welcome to the community section of the site – the place where you’ll discover projects and initiatives that SOHAR Port and Freezone have been involved in to help bring about positive changes to our wider community.

Skills development, cultural activities, sports and health, and environmental issues are high on our agenda. We collaborate with local schools, Government agencies, and businesses to contribute to sustainable growth, which promotes an empowered society.

Our Commitment, Your Environment

SOHAR has become the first port in the Middle East to reward ships with good environmental credentials. Worldwide, there are just twenty ports that offer such an incentive. As part of the World Port Climate Initiative (WPCI), key ports from around the world have committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. The reward scheme incentivizes clean ships calling at the port with a rebate on their port fees.
“SOHAR is setting a new standard in the region by rewarding operators for improving the environmental performance of their shipping fleets,” said Andre Toet, Chief Executive of SOHAR Port and Freezone. “This initiative will contribute to a reduction of emissions from ships and will have a positive influence on the quality of life for our local communities.”
